Oncology doctors typically receive specialty training in one of these areas and sometimes in more than one field. Although many patients with cancer develop relationships with more than one physician, it is helpful to have one specific physician identified as your primary care giver who will plan and coordinate all of your cancer care.
At Cascade Surgical Oncology, Dr. Trezona has specialty training in evaluating all types of lumps (such as breast lumps), cancer surgery, cancer chemotherapy, immunotherapy and radiotherapy.
Some of the cancers he cares for include:
Unique Procedures and Treatments We Do
Hepatic Artery Infusion Chemotherapy
A method of administering chemotherapy directly into liver tumors via the liver artery. It results in much higher response rates and significantly fewer side effects than conventional chemotherapy. Dr. Trezona trained with a pioneer of this technique in Houston, and has 15 years experience in its use. Recent studies now suggest this treatment should be the standard of care for isolated liver tumors which have spread from colon cancer. It is useful for certain other cancers as well.
Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy
A technique for examining the regional lymph nodes for cancer spread without having to remove the entire lymph node group. Only one or two lymph nodes are removed for study using a sophisticated nuclear technique for mapping which lymph node will be involved first. It is useful for several types of cancer. Dr. Trezona introduced this technique to the region, having a few years experience in its use in Houston before moving here.
Radiofrequency Ablation of Liver Tumors
A surgical technique for killing liver tumors without removing them. The procedure uses a needle array of electrical wires inserted into the liver allowing heating of tumors to about 115 degrees F, causing tumor destruction without sacrificing normal surrounding liver tissue.
Biologic Therapy of Melanoma
Dr. Trezona is the only oncologist between Portland and San Francisco providing comprehensive melanoma care; including chemotherapy, Interferon, Leukine, High dose INterleukin-2, and both inpatient and outpatient Biochemotherapy.
