Sydney Johnstone was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Her fascination with the field of medicine began early as she loved to tinker about her grandfather’s medical practice which he ran out of his historic Victorian home located in downtown Detroit. After high school Sydney decided to “Aim High” and joined the United States Air Force where she trained as a military Medic. After completion of her active duty service obligation she moved to Richmond, Virginia. It was there that she began her training in the operating room as a Surgical Technologist at the Medical College of Virginia. She was trained in multiple surgical specialties but had a love for vascular surgery. She served on the Vascular Transplant Team working side by side with some of the best surgeons in the world. She went on to train as a Surgical First Assistant and worked in this role while completing her undergraduate degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. Before entering into graduate school she worked as a Surgical Technology Program Instructor then became a Surgical Technology Program Manager at Cambridge College. She completed her Physician Assistant training at the University of Washington MEDEX Northwest. Since graduation she has worked in Family Medicine, General Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery. She joined the Cascade Medical Surgical Oncology practice in April of 2018.
Sydney enjoys traveling and has participated in multiple medical missions trips though out the world. She enjoys cooking and has taught cooking classes many times as fund raising events.
